Media Release: ISSA CISO/CSO Program ISSA SPEARHEADING CISO/CSO PROGRAM INITIATIVE PGP Sponsorship Will Launch New Global Program Oak Creek, WI/January 4, 2005 (PR Newswire) - The Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) announced that it will be spearheading a program to help industry organizations utilize the knowledge and expertise of the Chief Information Security Officer, or CISO. This Program Initiative will be launched with a contribution from PGP Corporation, representing a partnership between the largest international non-profit security association and a worldwide leader in encryption technology. The initiative will aim to create awareness of the role of the CISO to help organizations stay at the forefront of information security requirements. "We decided the best way to increase CISO effectiveness was to expand the skill set, scope, and voice of security managers both inside and outside their professional organizations, starting with the ISSA," said International ISSA President Dave Cullinane. Phillip Dunkelberger, CEO of PGP Corporation, agreed with Cullinane. "Many security experts are still focused on point solutions that only solve today's problems," Dunkelberger says. "That's why professional associations need to educate their members, expand their outreach efforts, and help ensure we're not proposing short-term solutions that do not solve long-term problems." Key elements of the PGP-sponsored CISO/CSO Program Initiative will include alliances with other security-focused associations to develop a comprehensive framework for CISO/CSO professional development public policy advocacy, expansion of the current ISSA CISO Executive Forum, and increased research on security risk metrics. "I see 2005 and 2006 as a critical time for security associations to go on the offensive and become a proactive influence on the laws that govern us and the best practices we utilize," says Cullinane. "I shudder to think who will eventually call the shots if we don't do a better job of speaking the language of our business."
