Protection of “individually identifiable health information” is required by the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). DeKalb Medical Center is using PGP Universal™ for gateway email encryption to securely transfer confidential financial, patient, and billing information to doctors and insurers as well as accounting, third-party billing, and collection companies. The medical center is also using PGP® Command Line to protect files in storage and transit, eliminating the need for a virtual private network.
