Media Release: EDAG Secures Supply Chain with PGP Encryption Platform

EDAG Turns to PGP Encryption Platform for Secure Communications within Automotive Supply Chain

Transparent-to-User PGP Email Encryption Automatically Protects Proprietary Designs and Engineering Data

Palo Alto, CA/ 28 September, 2006 – PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data security and encryption solutions, announced today that automotive supplier EDAG Engineering + Design AG (EDAG) has chosen the PGP® Encryption Platform to secure email communications with its customer Audi AG. Due to the highly competitive nature of the automotive industry, most manufacturers mandate that suppliers encrypt sensitive information to protect intellectual property and other proprietary data. Because the PGP Encryption Platform is based on open standards, EDAG can meet Audi’s encryption requirements as well as those of other automotive customers with a single solution.

Based in Fulda, Germany, EDAG is known for its expertise in vehicle development, production plant engineering, and tooling. In addition to Audi, EDAG’s customers include Bentley, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Porsche, and Volvo. The company is tightly integrated into its customers’ supply chains, and secure communications are essential for protecting new designs, technical blueprints, price negotiations, and other confidential information shared between manufacturers and suppliers.

“EDAG was looking for an easy way to encrypt emails without user interaction,” said Thomas Diegmüller, EDAG’s head of network technology. “PGP Universal™ is so transparent our users don’t even notice that encryption takes place, yet we’re confident our communications are secure, based on policies we’ve previously set. It’s also important that the PGP Encryption Platform is considered a standard for secure communications in the automotive industry; it offers everything we need and more—right out of the box.”With the first PGP® application they deploy, organizations like EDAG begin to realize the benefits of the PGP Encryption Platform. Additional PGP solutions leverage this common platform, resulting in lower operational costs and faster implementation compared to point solutions.

Comprehensive Security Strategy Within Reach
EDAG considered other vendors’ offerings, but found the PGP Encryption Platform offered more benefits, including the ability to communicate securely with recipients that are not using an encryption solution. Also, because PGP encryption applications share the same key, policy, and user management, the company can easily add other PGP solutions, as needed. This flexibility allows EDAG to take advantage of the economies of scale offered by a platform approach while phasing in a comprehensive security strategy.
