Press Release: PGP Corporation Opens PGP Encryption Platform with Next-Generation APIs and Tool Kits
New Capabilities to Broaden PGP Encryption Platform Integration Opportunities
Palo Alto, CA / 31 March, 2008 - PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data protection, today announced the further expansion of its award-winning PGP® Encryption Platform with a new set of functionality targeted at independent software vendors (ISVs), independent hardware vendors (IHVs), and enterprises. The new application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development toolkits (SDKs) allow developers to quickly and easily leverage the market-leading cryptographic, user management, key management, policy, and reporting features of the PGP Encryption Platform into their own applications. The PGP Encryption Platform's breadth of features, low implementation cost, high return on investment, and broad deployment at more than 4,000 enterprise customers worldwide make it an attractive development target for ISVs and IHVs.
New capabilities include a next generation PGP Encryption Platform application programming interface (API), the PGP® Crypto SDK, and the PGP® Messaging SDK. These new tools offer substantial improvements in ease of use, programming language support, features, and flexibility, and are the same tools PGP Corporation uses to create its own current award-winning product line and future products.
"PGP is already widely deployed so extending the capabilities of the PGP Encryption Platform to third-party ISVs and enterprise developers will help PGP customers and the security industry," said Jon Oltsik, Senior Analyst with the Enterprise Strategy Group. "Enterprises are focused on protecting more data, in more places while reducing costs. Using the PGP Encryption Platform as a foundation for ISV and internal enterprise-developed application integration, enterprises can protect the confidentiality and integrity of more data while minimizing product acquisition, deployment, and administration costs."
Continuing PGP Corporation's demonstrated commitment to standards, the PGP Encryption Platform delivers the flexibility to accommodate existing and emerging key management standards. PGP Corporation's next-generation approach offers more flexible key types, attributes, and policies; comprehensive user and group management; and integration with external enterprise directory systems. The new framework allows the broad capabilities of the PGP Encryption Platform to be extended to a wide range of corporate applications, third-party software, and key management protocols.
"Customer response to Lumension Security's strategic partnership with PGP Corporation has been fantastic," said Rich Hlavka, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Lumension Security. "We are excited by the added capabilities in the PGP Encryption Platform, and look forward to leveraging these powerful next-generation technologies for both encryption and key management integration."
With the added functionality, ISVs and IHVs will be able to:
- Address an existing worldwide market of thousands of PGP UniversalTM Servers, tens of thousands of PGP customers, and millions of client seats already deployed:
- Leverage PGP Universal Server's rich key management functionality for key retrieval, backup, storage, or restore for an existing enterprise server;
- Develop independent or interoperable encryption applications, via either the FIPS 140-2 validated PGP Crypto SDK, the PGP Messaging SDK or by leveraging the capabilities of PGP Universal Servers; and
- Build complementary applications which work side-by-side with PGP Corporation's applications to add features, increase compliance visibility, satisfy regulatory requirements, and enhance reporting.
Enterprise IT developers get all the benefits of ISVs and IHVs, and also can:
- Leverage keys from an existing PGP Universal Server implementation to secure other critical corporate data;
- Add rich encryption functionality to corporate applications without worrying about key management, storage, administration, or policy management;
- Secure corporate applications without needing to implement encryption in the local application;
- Add features to existing applications for securing web transactions, POS terminals, secure data transfer, or other custom processes, while providing key recovery, lifecycle, and user management with low overhead; and
- Gain operational efficiencies, lower costs, and improved management across their encryption applications.
"The need for encryption is becoming pervasive throughout the enterprise, and no single vendor can address every scenario," said Steven Schoenfeld, VP of Products and Strategy at PGP Corporation. "Opening up these APIs gives third parties access to the same encryption and key management that PGP® products have benefited from for over five years."
PGP Corporation briefings on the new PGP Encryption Platform interfaces and capabilities will take place during the RSA Conference. To schedule a meeting, go to http://www.pgp.com/rsa08/ or visit PGP Corporation at Booth 517 from April 7 through 11, 2008.
