Media Release: PGP 8.0 Source Code Released
PGP CORPORATION ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF PGP 8.0 SOURCE CODE
Palo Alto, CA/03 December, 2002 – PGP Corporation, the recognized worldwide leader in secure messaging and data storage solutions, today announced the release of the PGP 8.0 source code, simultaneous with the release of the PGP 8.0 family of products. This source code release marks the reintroduction of a long-standing PGP policy of encouraging peer review of its code in order to guarantee that it meets the highest standards. The availability of PGP's source code for peer review provides all the necessary elements to verify the correctness of PGP's cryptographic implementation, as well as demonstrate irrefutably that neither the PGP source code nor products based on it are compromised in any way. "PGP is the only security software company sufficiently committed to product integrity and security to publish its intellectual property in the form of source code for peer review," said Phil Dunkelberger, President and CEO of PGP Corporation. "We believe that releasing the source code for security-related software should be a standard industry practice, and a requirement of any serious security vendor."
