Media Release: METRO Group Licenses PGP Solutions
METRO GROUP LICENSES PGP CORPORATION’S
SECURE-MESSAGING AND DATA-STORAGE SOLUTIONS
Palo Alto, CA/16 June, 2003 – PGP Corporation, the recognized leader in secure messaging and data storage, today announced that METRO Group, the world’s fifth-largest retailer, has licensed PGP® Enterprise 8.0 for use by corporate managers as well as by notebook users. PGP Enterprise 8.0 delivers all the configuration, installation, and key management tools required to implement secure messaging and data storage quickly and successfully throughout an enterprise, from the desktop to key management. The comprehensive suite includes PGP Mail, PGP Disk, PGP Admin, and PGP Keyserver for both Windows and Macintosh platforms. PGP Enterprise 8.0 is an integral element of an overall security program designed and implemented by MGI METRO Group Information Technology, a cross-functional unit that provides IT services to all METRO Group divisions. "We chose PGP secure solutions for three key reasons," said Dr. Udo Bär, division manager, network service center of MGI. "First, PGP technology enjoys a large installed user base and is, therefore, broadly adopted. This is important because we plan to use PGP solutions not only internally, but also for electronic communications with external partners," said Bär. “Second, from our perspective, the fact that PGP Corporation releases its source code for peer review demonstrates a high level of security. And, third, PGP products are easy to use, which will minimize initial user training and ongoing support costs." “We’re pleased that, after an extensive review, METRO Group chose PGP Enterprise 8.0 to meet its secure-messaging and data-storage requirements," said Steve Abbott, PGP vice president worldwide sales. “METRO Group joins a growing list of PGP customers who adopt our comprehensive solutions as part of their total security policies and practices to protect confidential information in transit, at rest, and at every point in between."
