Media Release: PGP Command Line 8.5

PGP CORPORATION LAUNCHES PGP COMMAND LINE 8.5 TO ADD ENCRYPTION TO BATCH DATA PROCESSING AND DATA TRANSFER

Allows simple integration of PGP security into existing server-to-server data transfer applications

Palo Alto, CA/09 June, 2004 – PGP Corporation, a global leader in digital information security, today introduced PGP® Command Line 8.5, software that adds encryption capabilities to batch processing and transfer of sensitive business information. This product is for organizations with applications that include regular server-to-server or server-to-desktop transfer of proprietary corporate information. Securing such information transfers has become an increasingly high priority in response to government privacy and security regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and HIPAA as well as to increased use of the Internet as a transmission channel.

“Customers in every industry and geography have asked for a product that adds PGP security to internal applications that regularly move information among servers,” said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation. “With PGP Command Line 8.5, industries such as financial services will be able to insert PGP encryption into their core applications that deliver daily or hourly bulk-transfers of transactional, credit card, loan, and other proprietary information.” Key customer issues for using PGP Command Line 8.5:
  • Regulatory requirements have increased the need for all applications and information to be secured, especially large batches of customer data automatically transferred among servers
  • Increased awareness that SSL-type security, which secures the transmission conduit but not the information itself, does not deliver the highest level of security
  • Increased use of FTP batch processing, a less-secure method of transfer, which has no provision for maintaining information securely while in storage

Key features of PGP Command Line 8.5:

  • Simple insertion of PGP encryption into existing and new batch processes that include transfer of proprietary information between servers or from server to desktop without the additional hardware needed by secure FTP drop-box solutions
  • Protection of data both in transit over the network and in storage at either end of the network connection
  • Secure email, stored data, and batch-processing/FTP email and stored data from a single, trusted vendor
  • Patented PGP Additional Decryption Key (ADK) technology to ensure corporate access to encrypted data according to policy, especially to meet regulatory mandates
  • Based on the mature PGP Software Development Kit (SDK) cryptographic engine common to all PGP products, from a trusted vendor that publishes source code for peer review; the PGP SDK 3.0.3 has received FIPS 140-2 validation of core PGP cryptography
