PGP CORPORATION AND COUNTERPANE INTERNET SECURITY BRING
STANDARDIZED,
Network-based encryption software ensures security of inbound and outbound email communications Palo Alto, CA/12 October, 2004 – PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise encryption solutions, and Counterpane Internet Security, Inc., the leader in Managed Security Services, today announced that Counterpane has chosen PGP® Universal to extend its high-security communications services. Counterpane will integrate PGP Universal's email security into its existing network to standardize encryption for inbound and outbound electronic messages. Counterpane has deployed PGP Universal to support more than 400 customer networks in more than 35 countries. Counterpane sales, operations, and engineering employees frequently utilize email to communicate sensitive network security data to both internal contacts and external customers. PGP Universal provides Counterpane with an advanced, end-to-end encryption solution that secures all electronic messages and allows Counterpane to successfully meet the high security standards demanded by its customers. Establishing and maintaining secure email connections requires support of both PGP and the open standard, X.509-based certificates. PGP Universal bridges the X.509 and PGP encryption specifications easily within a single system, which is centralized within Counterpane's infrastructure. "Securing communications between Counterpane, our customers, and our business partners is critical to ensuring success in the marketplace," said Doug Howard, vice president of Service Delivery. "As a single source for complete network security, Counterpane must deploy proven technologies and solutions that advance security measures for our customers around the globe. Counterpane's selection of PGP Universal meets this requirement by securely encrypting our own communications solutions and by leveraging our clients' existing network infrastructure investments." PGP Universal has now been integrated as part of Counterpane's messaging gateways. For users and systems not already using PGP keys, Counterpane uses PGP Universal's Smart Trailer feature as a standard capability that allows recipients to receive future messages in encrypted form or to upload any existing X.509 or PGP keys. "We are particularly pleased to have Counterpane join our growing list of PGP Universal customers," said Andrew Krcik, vice president of Marketing for PGP Corporation. "When security experts such as Counterpane, the industry leader in Managed Security Services, select and deploy PGP Universal, it validates the excellence of our new architecture, its practical application in production environments, and the trust placed in our company and products." Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. provides global enterprises with the highest level of corporate IT asset protection in the industry. The Counterpane Enterprise Protection SuiteT offers scanning, management, and consulting services based on Counterpane's Managed Security Monitoring service.
