PGP CORPORATION LAUNCHES ENHANCED PGP DESKTOP 8.1 PRODUCT WITH
EXPANDED GROUPWISE, APPLE MAIL, LANGUAGE SUPPORT
New desktop products include FIPS 140-2 validation of core
technology

– PGP Corporation, a global leader in digital
information security, today released PGP ® Desktop 8.1,
the newest version of its expanding security product line for
individuals, workgroups, organizations, governments, and
enterprises. PGP Desktop 8.1 is ideal for organizations that need
to exchange secure email and files with external business partners
such as suppliers, vendors, customers, contractors, auditors, and
legal counsel.

PGP Desktop 8.1 is composed of four key components:
- PGP Disk - transparently creates folders/volumes whose
contents are encrypted when not in use, preventing unauthorized
access
- PGP Mail - combines encryption and digital signatures for
secure email, attachments, and instant messages
- PGP Admin - allows IT and security managers to centrally
configure, deploy, update, and manage large PGP Desktop
installations, including the use of advanced key features such as
Additional Decryption Key (ADK), key reconstruction, and key
splitting
- PGP Keyserver - provides a centralized repository for company
keys and policies
Key new features of PGP Desktop 8.1:
- International Character Set - improved compatibility with
international character sets encrypted using plug-ins for
Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, and Apple Mail
- Outlook 2003 Cached Exchange Mode - compatibility with the
new Cached Exchange Mode feature of Outlook 2003
- Automatic Update Notification - notifies users when new PGP
versions and updates are available
- Novell GroupWise 6.5.1 Support - support for the most current
version of Novell's email system
- Apple Mail Improvements - enhanced user interface and
functionality for Apple's email application
- FIPS 140-2 Validation - validation of core PGP encryption by
FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards), part of NIST
(National Institute of Standards and Technology )
- German Language Version - PGP Desktop 8.1DE is available for
German-language customers
