Media Release: PGP HIPAA Education Series

PGP CORPORATION CO-SPONSORS HIPAA EDUCATIONAL SERIES FEATURING HEALTH CARE EXPERT DR. WILLIAM BRAITHWAITE

Seminar series focuses on key compliance issues and available solutions

Palo Alto, CA/14 December, 2004 PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise encryption solutions, today presents the next in a series of seminars entitled, "Advanced HIPAA Issues: Through the Eyes of the Author." Dr. William Braithwaite, the primary author of the Administrative Simplification Subtitle of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), will provide a HIPAA "State of the Union" address with a focus on health information security and privacy. This educational seminar, co-sponsored by the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society ( http://www.dfwhimss.com) , is being held Tuesday, December 14, 8:00-10:30 a.m., at the Intercontinental Hotel in Addison, Texas.

The next event in the series will be held Thursday, December 16, 8:00-10:30 a.m., at the Westin Waltham-Boston in Waltham, Massachusetts, and is being co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium ( http://www.mahealthdata.org) . To register for either of these events, go to http://www.pgp.com/newsroom/events/index.html.

"There is no single solution to the complex issues of security compliance under the HIPAA regulations," noted Dr. Braithwaite. "But there are certain best practices that every organization should follow. Employing encryption technologies in situations where the risk of a security breach is significant is an important core component of these solutions."

HIPAA has had a profound impact on the protection of information in all areas of the health care industry. Dr. Braithwaite's address will discuss the philosophy behind the HIPAA law and provide a glimpse into the future of health care legislation and regulation as it pertains to information security and privacy. Key discussion topics will include:

  • Understanding the core philosophies behind HIPA regulations to facilitate interpretation
  • Identifying top compliance issues to address prior to next April's compliance deadline
  • Learning how HIPAA will evolve and how other legislative and regulatory initiatives may impact health care
  • Learning how encryption solutions from PGP Corporation are an essential component of HIPAA compliance

"We are proud to have Dr. Braithwaite available to participate in these important educational seminars," said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation. "Our goal is to educate our current and potential customers about HIPAA-compliance issues and the critical gaps that exist and to offer solutions to help them comply as effectively and efficiently as possible."
