Media Release: "Deploy-Once" Enterprise Encryption Platform

PGP CORPORATION ANNOUNCES “DEPLOY-ONCE” ENTERPRISE ENCRYPTION PLATFORM

Enterprise Encryption Platform with Integrated Encryption Application Suite Eliminates Technology Silos, Protects All Confidential and Restricted Data

Palo Alto, CA/30 August, 2005 PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data security and encryption solutions, today announced an integrated architecture that delivers comprehensive data encryption through a single, automated, extendable platform. An enterprise license for any individual PGP encryption application now includes the capability of all PGP encryption applications plus the capability of all PGP management functions, allowing enterprises to make a one-time encryption platform investment. This “deploy-once, enable-over-time” architecture means customers deploying a PGP® Universal Server have deployed both the PGP proxy architecture (providing automated operation, central security policy, shared key and client management) and the capability of the full PGP encryption suite (currently 10 encryption applications for gateway, end-point, and server data security). With this platform in place, customers simply license and turn on additional PGP encryption applications and management functions as risk and requirements dictate. The company"s “innovation delivered” philosophy results in a platform designed for continuous expansion and the creation of new encryption applications that anticipate and meet evolving enterprise security needs.

“With data security, many IT organizations do a good job preparing for the threat they already know,” said Howard Schmidt, President & CEO of R & H Security Consulting LLC. "The challenge facing many enterprises is that to make good use of technology, "restricted" customer and company data must be spread throughout the enterprise - in HR, payroll, finance, marketing, sales, R&D, operations, supply chain, manufacturing, outsourcers - everywhere. IT organizations cannot simply secure a few critical individuals, a portion of their email accounts, or even all their laptops. They must plan how over time they can secure all today"s data assets and those that evolve in the future. Use of the PGP Universal platform allows IT organizations a cost-effective way to protect the enterprise from both present and future threats while providing compliance on encrypting of data.”

According to Forrester Research, an independent research firm, “Firms should act immediately to protect data. Encryption is especially important for sensitive information. As thefts from financial institutions suggest, even desktops are at risk; laptops and PDAs are at even greater risk in the field.”*

PGP Universal Platform & Encryption Suite
The PGP Universal platform allows IT organizations to extend data security to all internal departments and external partners that handle restricted information. Its proxy-based architecture eliminates conflicting priorities within IT organizations (information security vs. email infrastructure vs. network architecture) with automatic operation, email infrastructure transparency, and removal of laptop/desktop, gateway/server, and mobile/wireless encryption silos. It meets business unit requirements for customer privacy, competitive protection, supply chain integrity, and “brand insurance” against public breach - without disrupting users.

Once deployed inside the firewall, the PGP Universal platform is capable of provisioning 10 encryption applications in a combination of gateway and end-point locations. This “deploy once, enable over time” approach allows enterprises to address their greatest risks today and grow into a comprehensive security solution over time.

Current PGP encryption suite applications include the following:

  1. Disk encryption (full disk, volumes, files, external media)
  2. Email encryption (gateway, desktop, mobile)
  3. Digital signatures (gateway, desktop, mobile)
  4. Secure data deletion (file shred, disk wipe)
  5. Instant messaging (IM) encryption
  6. Self-Decrypting Archives (SDAs)
  7. Batch process/FTP encryption
  8. Secure tape/archive encryption
  9. Encrypted email delivery to all recipients
  10. Encryption Software Development Kit (SDK) for customized, internal applications

PGP Solutions Growth
"PGP products began with just email and file encryption. For years I intended to do a broad range of PGP solutions - if we could find the resources - and now the new PGP Corporation has made that a reality," said Phil Zimmermann, creator of the original PGP Desktop products. “Today, the PGP Universal platform will provide 10 encryption applications, with more in the works. With the capabilities of the PGP Universal platform, we could see encryption extended to such front-office applications as LANs, print and file servers, hybrid phones, and new types of mobile devices.”

The PGP Universal platform is an automated, server-based architecture that centrally handles all key management, corporate encryption policy, and network infrastructure interaction. It manages both gateway and client encryption applications, providing one uniform encryption policy that is automatically enforced for all users. Automatic encryption and decryption means no user training, little IT staffing impact, and low ownership costs. Its proxy-based design installs without disruption to existing network architectures and easily expands to meet future risks to data security. PGP Corporation has 10 encryption applications available today and additional solutions in development.

“In the past, enterprises were forced to piece together encryption solutions - different vendors for endpoint security, gateway email, laptop full disk encryption, and secure FTP or archiving,” said Pamela Fusco, Presidential Advisor to the ISSA and recently CISO at two Fortune® 100 companies. “This piecemeal approach created significant issues related to operability, scalability, and management of assets, resulting in service and systems disruptions, few economies of scale, and high overall cost. The comprehensive data security required for regulatory and competitive compliance was next to impossible to achieve. With the PGP Universal encryption platform, I found we could "deploy once," and then easily integrate encryption applications as needs and requirements arose - resulting in good ROI over time.”

Technology Partners & Availability
The PGP Universal platform deploys easily into existing email and network infrastructures. PGP Corporation has alliance partnerships and joint deployment guides for all the leading content filter and gateway security vendors, including BorderWare, CipherTrust, Clearswift, IronPort, MailFrontier, Mirapoint, PortAuthority, Proofpoint, Sendmail, and Vontu. PGP Universal solutions are available immediately from PGP channel partners, PGP alliance partners, and the PGP commerce site.
