Who is eligible for a free upgrade?
Any customer with a current Subscription License or Perpetual License with Software Insurance (previously called Upgrade Insurance) is entitled to a free upgrade.
Customers with a Perpetual License who do not have active Software Insurance (including all PGP Personal Desktop licenses) are not entitled to a free upgrade.
Will I be notified that I am eligible to upgrade?
Yes. All eligible customers will be notified. Notification will be phased, beginning with customers known to have server products. In addition, PGP Desktop customers will be notified that a new version is available via the "Auto-Update" product feature and will be walked through the upgrade process.
What if I want to upgrade before I am officially notified?
You are not prevented from upgrading if you are eligible, but have not yet been notified. Customers can obtain new licenses in advance of receiving the notification email by entering their license number in the licensing eligibility application. Additionally, PGP Desktop customers may upgrade to version 9.7 by using the "Auto-Update" product feature or by clicking on "Check for Updates" in the product.
If I am eligible for a free upgrade, what am I entitled to receive?

I own PGP Personal Desktop. Which new product should I buy?
Most owners of PGP Personal Desktop would be happy with PGP Desktop Home. If you travel with a laptop computer and are concerned about the security of the data on it, however, you should consider purchasing PGP Desktop Professional.
I own PGP Desktop Enterprise. Which new product should I buy?
With the latest release, PGP Desktop Enterprise has been renamed PGP Desktop Corporate. Owners of PGP Desktop Enterprise who are eligible for a free upgrade will be upgraded to PGP Desktop Corporate as part of the upgrade process. Customers seeking additional licenses of PGP Desktop Enterprise functionality should now purchase PGP Desktop Corporate.

If you are still unsure about upgrading after reading the product information, please visit our Customer Support website at www.support.pgp.com. What if I don't want to upgrade?
License holders may use their current version of the software for the remainder of the license term. Subscription License holders may choose to upgrade their installation at any point until their subscription expires. Perpetual with Software Insurance License holders may choose to upgrade at any time. Perpetual with Software Insurance License holders who choose not to renew Software Insurance will be entitled to continue to use the product under the terms of the base Perpetual License, which includes bug fixes, but not updates or upgrades, after expiration of the current Perpetual with Software Insurance License term.
Will my old licenses work in PGP Desktop 9.7/9.8 or PGP Universal 2.7/2.8 installations?
PGP Desktop 9.0 licenses will work in PGP Desktop 9.7/9.8 if no new functionality (such as PGP NetShare) is needed. PGP Desktop 8.x and PGP Universal 2.0 customers will need a new license number to use the new versions of the products. PGP Desktop 9.5 customers will not need a new license number.
What product versions do upgrades support?
Upgrades are supported from the latest previous product versions. For example, PGP Desktop users can upgrade from 9.6 to 9.8. PGP Universal users can upgrade from 2.6 to 2.8.
Are the operating system and hardware requirements the same with these versions?
No. There are changes to both. The latest specifications for both client and server products can be found on the appropriate product page on the PGP website.
What if I have partners who are running PGP Universal Satellite on older operating systems?
PGP Universal 2.8 still supports the use of PGP Universal Satellite 2.0. Your partners can keep using that version until they upgrade their operating systems.
What PGP Desktop products (old and new) will work with PGP Keyserver 7.x and PGP Universal Server 2.8? What features are supported by each?
The following table summarizes compatibility between versions. Because older clients have the most complete compatibility with PGP Keyserver 7.x, you should keep your old server live until all clients can be upgraded.

Are there any changes to the integration with mail clients?
Yes. Integration is now seamless, removing the need for plugin buttons. Please see the specific product information for a full description of what this change means. Also note that with this release, we no longer support Novell GroupWise native protocol format.
Does PGP Desktop 9.8 support Windows Terminal Services?
No. PGP Corporation does not officially support the use of PGP Desktop 9.8 with Windows Terminal Services.
How do I receive my upgrade?
To upgrade to PGP Universal 2.8 from PGP Universal 2.0 or to PGP Desktop 9.8 from PGP Desktop 8.1, you will need a new license number. You can obtain your new license number(s) by entering your current license number(s) in the licensing eligibility application. Once you obtain your new license number(s), you will be able to download your new PGP product.
Once I upgrade, will my product still check for future updates?
For software to continue to auto-update during the term of your Subscription License or Software Insurance, you will need to use the license key provided on renewal of each Subscription License or Software Insurance term.
I'm not sure whether I should keep everything as is or make changes when I upgrade. Is help available for either the upgrade or to discuss possible architectural changes?
Yes. We have a special group of PGP reseller partners that have gone through Upgrade Training as well as a Professional Services organization that works with them. For more information on getting upgrade assistance, click here and send us a brief description of your situation along with your contact information.
