PGP Desktop 9.x
Voluntary Product Accessibility Template

The Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) below describes features of the PGP® Desktop 9.x product line that establish compliance with Section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It explains how PGP Desktop 9.x is compliant, provides appropriate accessibility features, and works with the accessibility capabilities of the underlying Microsoft® Windows® and Apple® Mac OS® operating systems.

This VPAT includes sections 1194.21 and 1194.41 of the Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Standards published in 36 CFR Part 1194. Section 1194.21 covers software applications and operating systems, and section 1194.41 covers information, documentation, and support.

Many features of PGP Desktop are embedded in other applications or the operating system. For example, PGP Desktop provides buttons for encrypted and signed electronic mail within an email program. PGP® Whole Disk Encryption and PGP® Virtual Disk provide an encrypted disk drive that is used within the operating system as any other removable volume would be used. Consequently, by its very nature, PGP Desktop provides the same Section 508 compliance as the underlying system.

Based on the information presently available about Section 508 and known industry standards, PGP Desktop 9.x substantially complies with the compliance criteria set forth by the Access Board, solely to the extent described therein. This statement relies and is contingent upon the following assumptions:
  1. The product is used in accordance with its accompanying software license and associated documentation
  2. Any assistive technology used with the product complies with the criteria
  3. All products used in combination with the product are compliant (PGP Corporation cannot warrant any third-party products' compliance with the criteria.)

Even when applying generally accepted tests existing at this time, accessibility problems may still arise in software products. Should any such problems arise, the remedies available shall be subject solely to those terms and limitations (including those relating to warranty duration) defined in the applicable end user license agreements for the product.

Please also note that section 1194.3 specifically exempts "...any electronic and information technology operated by agencies, the function, operation, or use of which involves...cryptologic activities...". Although this exemption may be applicable to PGP Desktop 9.x, PGP Corporation has nonetheless created this VPAT to show its commitment to Section 508 compliance.
